Why Clean Your Solar Panels?
Solar panels are continually exposed to dust, pollen, bird droppings, organic film and other environmental contamination.
Rain can wash away some loose dirt, particularly from well-tilted panels, but it may not remove adhered residue or organic growth. Where contamination remains on the glass, it can reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the solar cells and contribute to soiling-related energy loss. The effect will vary according to the property, panel angle, surrounding environment, weather and level of build-up.
Panels in damp or shaded conditions may also develop algae, mould or lichen. Light or isolated growth can often be removed during cleaning, while established lichen may require additional work and can leave permanent staining even after the organic material has been removed.
Professional cleaning returns the exposed panel glass to a clean, maintained condition. It cannot correct permanent staining, damaged coatings, cracked panels, electrical faults or other pre-existing conditions, and no particular increase in system output can be guaranteed.

Tap water is processed through Ronin’s four-stage pure-water filtration system to substantially remove dissolved minerals and other impurities. The resulting purified water helps reduce mineral spotting and supports a clean finish without harsh chemicals.
Solar panels are cleaned using suitable water-fed brushes and controlled agitation to loosen and remove dirt, dust, bird droppings, pollen, organic film and other environmental build-up.
Where reasonably required, additional agitation or targeted detailing may be used on isolated contamination. I will not use cleaning methods that present an unreasonable risk of scratching or damaging the panel surface simply to achieve complete cosmetic removal of established staining.
The cleaning method and access approach will depend on the condition and layout of the panels, roof construction, site conditions and what can be completed safely.
Two Levels of Solar Panel Cleaning
Solar panel cleaning is priced according to the current condition of the panels. A routinely maintained system and a heavily contaminated system do not require the same time or cleaning effort.
Initial / Heavily Soiled Cleaning
Suitable for panels that have not been professionally cleaned for an extended period or have substantial accumulated dirt, heavier bird-dropping contamination, algae, mould or moderate to heavy lichen growth.
This service allows additional time for controlled agitation, targeted detailing and repeated cleaning passes where reasonably required.
Maintenance / Lightly Soiled Cleaning
Suitable for panels kept in a reasonably maintained condition with routine dust, light dirt and grime, light bird residue, organic film or minor isolated growth.
Maintenance pricing reflects the reduced labour required to clean panels that remain lightly soiled. Eligibility is based on their condition at the time of service, not simply how recently they were cleaned.
Residential solar panel cleaning is subject to a minimum service charge of $250 including GST.
